Your Japan Guide
Curated personally for Sarah · Standard Plan · Autumn 2025
20 hand-picked spots

"Sarah, here are the places I'd take a close friend who loves history, quiet temples, and the kind of food you can only find if you know where to look. I hope these spots stay with you long after you come home."

Spot 01 Shrine · Hidden gem
Kifune Shrine
貴船神社 — Kibune, Kyoto
Tucked into a cedar-lined valley north of Kyoto, Kifune is one of Japan's oldest shrines — and one of its most quietly spectacular. In autumn the lanterns glow against red maple leaves; in summer the riverbed restaurants set their tables directly in the cool mountain stream.
6am – 8pm Eizan Railway to Kibuneguchi Best in autumn

Local tip: Arrive before 8am on weekdays to have the stone lantern path almost entirely to yourself. Avoid weekends in peak foliage season.

Spot 02 Food · Local market
Nishiki Market — the back section
錦市場(奥) — Nakagyo, Kyoto
Everyone visits Nishiki Market. Almost nobody walks past the tourist-facing stalls into the quieter back half, where local vendors have been selling pickles, tofu, and dried fish to Kyoto households for generations.
9am – 5pm 5 min from Karasuma Oike

Local tip: Try the yuba (tofu skin) fresh from the small shop two-thirds of the way down on the left. Ask for it warm.

My story

Why I started My Japan Trip.

I've spent my whole life in Japan — visiting shrines tucked away in mountain forests, eating at tiny ramen shops with no English menu, watching festivals that don't make it onto any tourist list. I know Japan not from a guidebook, but from living it every day.

When friends from abroad started asking me for travel advice, I noticed something: the information online was always the same. Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka. The same familiar spots. The same recommended restaurants. The real Japan — the one I know — was invisible.

My Japan Trip is my way of changing that. Every guide I create is a personal letter to a traveller, written with the same care I'd give a close friend visiting for the first time.

What I believe in

The values behind every guide.

Human, always
No algorithms. Every spot is chosen by hand, with thought and genuine local knowledge.
Beyond the obvious
Famous spots have their place, but the magic of Japan is often found somewhere quieter.
Made with care
Each guide takes real time and thought. I'd rather do fewer guides well than many quickly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know before booking your personalised Japan guide.

About the service

Is this made by AI or a real person?
Every plan is handcrafted by a Japanese local — no AI involved. Real local knowledge, lived experience, and genuine passion for Japan cannot be replicated by an algorithm. Your curator was born and raised in Japan and personally selects each spot based on your questionnaire.
What kind of spots do you recommend?
A mix of iconic landmarks and hidden gems — shrines, temples, historic neighbourhoods, local markets, scenic nature spots, and more. We do not recommend hotels or accommodation. The focus is entirely on places worth visiting.
Do you cover all of Japan, or just Tokyo and Kyoto?
All of Japan. From Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, including rural Tohoku, the hidden valleys of Shikoku, and the volcanic landscapes of Kyushu.

Plans & pricing

What is the difference between the plans?
The main difference is number of spots and depth of information. Basic ($50) includes 10 spots. Standard ($75) includes 20 spots with seasonal tips. Premium ($100) includes 30 spots with deep cultural context. All plans cover all of Japan and are equally personalised.
Can I upgrade my plan after purchasing?
Yes, if you contact us before your guide is delivered. Upgrades are not possible after delivery.
Do you offer refunds?
Full refund if you cancel before submitting your questionnaire. Once curation has begun, refunds are not available. If you're unhappy with your guide, please reach out — we're committed to making it right.

Delivery & format

How will I receive my guide?
As a beautifully designed PDF sent to your email. Easy to save on your phone and access offline — perfect for exploring Japan without worrying about internet connection.
How long does it take?
Within 3–5 business days after questionnaire submission. This is not an instant automated service — we take time with every plan.
Is the guide in English?
Yes, all guides are written in English. We also include the Japanese name and address for each spot so you can show it to locals or use it in navigation apps.

Other questions

I have dietary restrictions. Can you still help?
Absolutely. Mention any dietary requirements or allergies in your questionnaire. Our curator will take these into account for food-related spots.
I've already been to Japan. Is this still useful?
Especially so. Repeat visitors often find the most value in our service. Tell us what you've already seen and we'll make sure every recommendation is somewhere new.
Who is behind My Japan Trip?
An independent service run by a Japanese local with a deep love for sharing the country's lesser-known beauty. Every guide is made with care and genuine insider knowledge — not outsourced, not automated.
